OPTRES100

A Chinese-German cooperation project

Project Description

OPTRES100 is a Chinese-German Cooperation Project, supported by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (Project Management Agency DLR) and the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology.

The Paris Climate Protection Agreement requires global temperature rise to be limited to 2°C, preferably 1.5°C, implying a world-wide transition of the energy system towards low-carbon energy supply and use. By 2050, renewable energy sources (RES) may reach shares approaching 100% of electricity generation. This poses essential challenges for the integration of RES into the physical electricity system and the power markets.

In that context, it is important to develop highly sophisticated analytical tools and provide detailed (time and space-resolved) analysis to the policy level to understand in depth the challenges posed by high shares of renewables and to provide an analytical basis for solutions.

At the same time, a platform of exchange between China and Germany is offered.
